3 miles
City of Cedar Hill
Inspired by the surrounding forestry, Halff and the City transformed the functional trail into a scenic overlook, offering visitors breathtaking views of the nearby lake.
The City of Cedar Hill boasts a unique geological feature — an escarpment (steep cliff face) that creates the highest altitude in Texas between the Gulf Coast and Red River.
This project is part of a larger vision to create a regional trail network, with the 3-mile Balcones Trail serving as the backbone. The Balcones Trail connects Cedar Hill to hundreds of miles of planned trails, opening up easier access to the region’s natural beauty.
Halff prepared paving and grading improvements for the interior widening project on FM 1382 near these open spaces. The project was designed for the City of Cedar Hill, and all improvements were designed to TxDOT criteria and standards. Halff also designed the Balcones Trail, which serves the most critical connection throughout the City, providing access to hundreds of miles of trails.
This trail also allows connection to Grand Prairie and Dallas’s trail systems, as well as and the Veloweb near Cedar Ridge Preserve. Open access is now available for pristine ecotourism destinations, including Calabria Nature Preserve, Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center, Cedar Mountain Preserve, Cedar Hill State Park, Cedar Ridge Preserve and the Joe Pool Lake Overlook.
